About this website:
I’ve created this website as a means of communication for all of my friends while I travel through life and the world. In addition I hope to bring attention to different social issues that I have a passion for. Please be patient with me as I’m not used to sharing my personal thoughts with the whole of the internet.
My journey so far:
In April of 2011 I decided that I wanted to take my photography abroad so I decided to do a short-term missions program. I announced it here.
I started the program in Germany September 2011 and promptly began a roller coaster of meeting amazing new people, broadening my photography skills everyday and encountering new theology that really stretched what I believed. There were two parts to this program and, unfortunately, the staff decided that I was not ready to go on to the second part. You can read more about that decision here.
I came home 4 days later, just 6 days before Christmas. My plans are to continue pursuing photography and finish my degree in Studio Art and Biology.
My photography:
Both at home and abroad the goal of my photography is to capture life and the beauty of the people and nature around me.
I have a strong portfolio of work behind me and have studied photography in Illinois, Michigan and Germany. Like any professional photographer, all of my gear is professional. I love to work together with other stylists, models and photographers. When working with other creatives I understand the value of hardwork and the necessity of building a portfolio so I am willing to give compensation when I find worthy as well as work for barter or trade.
As an art student I try to work alongside but also outside of the formula of current trends by injecting classic style and elements of design wherever possible. I shoot both digital and film. For digital photography I use a Canon 5d. I use a Canon Elan IIe for 35mm film photography and a Bronica SQ-ai for medium format 120mm photography. I regularly switch between all of my cameras and my choice of camera depends on the style of the shoot as well as the clients preference.
In addition to my interests in fashion and portrait photography, I also have a huge heart for humanitarian photography. With my photos I seek to bring awareness to social justice issues everywhere. This often comes in the form of photojournalism and documentary photography. I love new challenges and I absolutely love when people approach me with new ideas.
I’m available in Illinois and Michigan and also available for travel. I love doing portraits, weddings, events, documentary stories, and just about everything else.
